Ticketmaster, the company selling tickets to Swift’s US tour, cancelled the public sale on Thursday due to “extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory”. General ticket sale for The Eras Tour, Swift’s first in five years, was to open on Friday morning.

The company tweeted “Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled”.

This decision came days after the company sold over two million tickets in pre-sale and the high demand crashed the website. This left many fans frustrated and brought the company under criticism .

Swift’s fans, the Swifties, have reported having to wait online on long queues, with many unable to purchase the tickets.

Ticketmaster said it had anticipated heavy demand of the tickets, saying that more than 3.5 million Swifties registered in advance as “verified fans” with hopes of getting tickets for the tour in the pre-sale.

The company said “the staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn’t have invite codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5 million total system requests – 4x our previous peak. Never before has a verified fan on sale sparked so much attention or uninvited volume.”

The Eras tour will begin on 18 March in Glendale, Arizona and end in August. Swift’s latest album “Midnights” claimed the biggest first week of album sales as well as the title of the most streamed album of the year with 72.5million streams across the seven days.

Swift is yet to make any public comment on the ticket cancellation. @taylorswift @ticketmaster
