Princess Anne, the late Queen Elizabeth’s daughter and King Charles’ sister, was hospitalized after a “incident” at her house on Sunday evening, according to a statement form Buckingham Palace.
The Princess Royal, 73, was admitted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with a minor head injury and concussion thought to be caused by a horse. The princess is expected to make a full and swift recovery, said Buckingham Palace.
“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery”, read a statement from Buckingham Palace.
“The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery”, added the statement.
The Princess Royal was scheduled to visit Canada at the end of the week, but the trip has now been postponed. Reports states she will also miss the state banquet for the Japanese state visit on Tuesday.
Princess Anne is the second child of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. She was third in line to the throne when she was born and is now 17th in the line of succession. She was first married to Captain Mark Phillips from 1973 to 1992. After their divorce, she married Sir Timothy Laurence the same year.
Princess Anne has two children, Peter and Zara.
