Tosguna Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service has issued a cougar warning for the residents of Bragg Creek.
In a Facebook post, the police said the cougar is injured and preying on dogs in the Wintergreen area near Bragg Creek. They added that the situation was being handled by Fish and Wildlife.
“Traps have been set up in hopes on capturing the cougar before things escalate. Be aware of your surroundings and animals if you live in the area. Do not approach”, said the police.
In a similar warning post on Facebook, Bragg Creek Wild says six dogs have been killed. The post read “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of six beloved family dogs to Cougar activity in the Wintergreen community.”
According to CTV News Calgary, all of the attacks happened between dusk and dawn, which is when cougars hunt. Lucy Curtis with Bragg Creek Wild told CTV News Calgary that the cougar is “injured and that might be the reason it’s acting in an unusual manner.”
Bragg Creek Wild have asked residents to call Fish and Wildlife if they find a cougar kill close to homes or hamlet. Also, residents are advised to keep their pets on a leash when possible and make sure children stay with the groups when out and about.
