Supporters of the Palestine and Israeli sides of the Israel-Hamas conflict congregated at the Calgary City Hall on Monday.
The rallies come on the same day Israel’s military ordered a complete siege on Gaza in retaliation after Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Saturday morning. The Israeli militants increased. Over 1,500 people have been killed on both sides, with thousands more wounded.
According to Global News, dozens of Israel supporters draped in the white and blue flags of the country gathered in the municipal plaza to place photos, light candles and listen to speakers, to remember those killed in the recent attacks.
Two hours later, a larger rally in support of the Palestine broke out in the Macleod Trail in front of the city hall, amid chants of “Free Palestine”, says the report.
One man, who the police believe is not affiliated with either group, was arrested Monday afternoon for breaching the peace. The man was reportedly calling the Palestine supporters “scum, yelling and swearing at them.
Police continue to investigate the incident and no charges have been laid.
