The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that led to the death of a teen over the weekend in the city’s southeast.

According to the police News release, the incident happened around 4am on Sunday, Oct. 6., 2024 on 52 Street S.E., just south of the intersection at Glenmore Trail S.E.

At the time, police believed a 2005 Honda CBR 600, being operated by a 17-year-old male, was traveling south on 52 Street S.E., at a high-rate speed. “As the motorcycle crossed Glenmore Trail S.E., the rider lost control of the motorcycle. The rider was dislodged from the motorcycle and struck the base of a light pole sustaining fatal injuries.”

No other vehicles were involved, reads the news release.

Officials believe speed is a factor in the collision. However, impairment by alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors. CPS Traffic Section continues to investigate and anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or drop anonymous tips on Crime Stoppers.
