The government of Canada has started Canada Grocery Rebate 2024, a plan for Canadians in the 2024 budget that allows beneficiaries to receive the Rebate amount in their bank account.
The Canada Grocery Rebate 2024 will provide benefits to beneficiaries whose income is not more than the government criteria. Announced in the 2023 spring federal budget, the Canada Grocery Rebate aims to help negate the rising cost of groceries.
Essentially, rebate is a one-time payment given to citizens of Canada with low incomes. According to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), to receive a grocery rebate, citizens must file a tax return in the year 2021 even if they had no income in that year. Individuals can receive the rebate if they are entitled to receive GST/HST credit for January 2023.
Those who are eligible for the rebate are residents of Canada for Income Tax purposes at the beginning of the month in which the CRA makes a payment. Also beneficiaries must be at least 19 years old. Candidates who are under 19 are expected to have a Spouse or Common-law partner. Otherwise, candidates should a have a child for parenting.
The eligible candidates will get a rebate amount between $234-$628 depending on the type of family, individuals and number of children. For the 2024 financial year, the rebate is expected in July 2024.
