Publishers across the United States have dropped the satirical office cartoon, Dilbert after the creator called Black Americans “a hate group” and that white people should “get the hell away” from them.
The creator, Scott Adams, made the comments on his YouTube show Real Coffee with Scott Adams. Mr. Adams made the comments in reference to a conservative organization’s survey that asked if people agreed with the statement: “It’s OK to be white.’
“If nearly half of all Blacks are not OK with White people – according to this poll, not according to me… that’s a hate group”, Adams said on his YouTube channel on Wednesday. “I don’t want anything to do with them. And I would say, based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to White people is to get the hell away from Black people.”
“Just get the f**k away from…because there’s no fixing this.” His comments have since experienced backlash and newspapers across the country are now dropping the comic strip.
The Washington Post said “in light of Scott Adams’s recent statements promoting segregation, The Washington Post has ceased publication of the Dilbert comic strip.”
The USA Today Network tweeted saying they will also stop publishing Dilbert comic “due to recent discriminatory comments by its creator.”
Chris Quinn editor of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland wrote “…This is not a difficult decision. We are not a home for those who espouse racism. We certainly do not want to provide them with financial support.”
