The details of the final agreements for the new Calgary Event Centre were released on Thursday. The Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) and the province will reportedly share the costs for the centre.

In the details released by the City, the agreements were signed between the City of Calgary, CSEC, the Province of Alberta, and Calgary Stampede. The project will include a new modern event centre and additional investments for new infrastructure in the Culture + Entertainment District.

The city said the agreement was released to give Calgarians insight into the partnership. The event centre block will feature an 18,000-seat arena, which will replace the Scotiabank Saddledome, as well as a new community rink.

“Calgarians who review these agreements will see a lot of familiar information. Much of the information contained in these agreements was released in October 2023 with the announcement of final agreements”, said Michael Thompson, the city’s general manager of infrastructure services said in a press release.

The city stated that the site is almost 40% larger than the previous deal, which was “a much more restrained space and only provided a building and one outdoor plaza.” The larger size allows for a better space that includes 10-acre site, event centre, indoor community plaza, outdoor community event plazas, attached parkade, downtown’s only community rink, available for community sport and events, during evenings and weekends and future redevelopment site.
