The Calgary Police Service (CPS)’s Arson Unit is reportedly working with the Calgary Fire Department to investigate multiple suspicious fires that happened in the southeast community of Riverbend.
According to the police, they were called at approximately 12:40am on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, for reports of a fire at a residence in the 100 block of Riverglen Crescent S.E.
“Upon arrival, our officers determined the fire had destroyed a garage and caused damage to two residences. No injuries were reported,” says a News Release by CPS.
“Investigators believe there were two additional nuisance fires set to recycling bins in the back alley of the 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E., and the 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E. One of the fires was believed to have been set around 11:30pm., on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, and the other is believed to have been set around the same time as the residential fire.”
Although, police do not believe the smaller fires led to any property damage or injuries, they still believe there may a possibility that all three fires are connected.
Officials are reportedly looking for footage of individuals in the area who may have been travelling by foot or by bicycle from 10pm on Wednesday, Aug.21, 2024 to 6am on Thursday, Aug 22, 2024.
They are searching for footage specifically in areas of the 100 block of Riverglen Crescent S.E.; The 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E.; and the 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E.
“Investigators are also asking for footage from homes with a view of 18 Street S.E. between Glenmore Trail S.E. and Riverview Close S.E.”
