The Calgary Humane Society is seeking help after a dead kitten was found in the southwest community of Kingsland on Monday.

According to humane society, since May 30th, seven kittens have been found in public spaces in various states of distress.

“On August 12, 2024, Calgary Humane Society Peace Officers were alerted to a horrific case of animal cruelty involving a deceased kitten found ziptied to a fence in the Southwest community of Kingsland”, said the Calgary Humane Society in a Facebook post.

After a veterinary examination, it was discovered that the kitten had suffered severe blunt force trauma to its abdomen and head. “This is just one in a disturbing series of similar incidents in the Sandy Beach/Kingsland area this summer, with some kittens found bound and covered in tar-like substance”, said the News Release.

“These victims could not be more vulnerable. It is incredibly concerning to see an isolated incident of this nature, let alone half a dozen”, said Brad Nichols, Director of Enforcement at Calgary Humane Society.

“Given the link between animal abuse and interpersonal violence, this concern transcends animal welfare”, said Nichols.

The Calgary Humane Society is asking anyone with information about these incidents or who might be responsible to call 403-205-4455 or submit an online report at https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/animals/report-animal-cruelty

The humane society also reminded the public of the dangers of allowing cats roam outdoors, including traffic, predation, and disease.
