AFCON 2023: Onuachu Replaces Injured Sadiq Umar in Super Eagles Squad

Sadiq Umar @sadiq.umar19 has been ruled out of the 2023 African Cup of Nations and replaced by Paul Onuachu.

Sadiq reportedly didn’t take part in the Super Eagles training activities at Ecole De Police, Abidjan on Thursday. The 26-year-old picked up a knee injury in Nigeria’s 2-0 friendly defeat to the Syli Stars of Guinea on Monday. Sadiq has missed the team’s last two training sessions.

In a statement posted on X by the Super Eagles, it was announced that Paul Onuachu will replace Sadiq Umar. The statement read “Sadiq Umar is out of the AFCON 2023 squad due to injury and Paul Onuachu replaces him.”

Sadiq is expected to be available for Nigeria’s second Group B game against hosts Cote d’Ivoire next Tuesday.

Another player that has been ruled out of the Super Eagles squad is Victor Boniface. His replacement, Terem Moffi, will join the rest of the Super Eagles squad on Sunday.
