France secured their largest-ever victory against Gibraltar in the Euro 2024 qualifying, with seven goals scored in each half. The victory came to a record 14-0.
The victory was led by Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick, including a 40-yard strike. Teenager Warren Zaire-Emery- France’s youngest player since 1914- was one of seven different first-half scorers. He marked his debut with a goal, extending the lead to 3-0 before exiting the game due to an ankle injury.
Gibraltar was reduced to a 10-men squad when Ethan Santos was dismissed for a foul challenge on Zaire-Emery as he swept the ball into the net. Mbappe extended the winning streak to 4-0 from the penalty spot, with subsequent goals from Clauss, Kingsley Coman, and Youssouf Fofana, making it 7-o in the first half.
In the 63rd minute, France added an eighth goal, with Adrian Rabiot netting in the ball. The goal-scoring spree started again as Kingsley Coman and Ousmane Dembele netted in their own goals. Mbappe scored two more, including a striking 40-yard finish after he spotted goalkeeper Dayle Coleing off his line.
Eventually, Olivier Giroud rounded off the astonishing victory with two quick goals in the dying minutes, just before the final whistle. France concluded the game with 39 shots on goal, with Gibraltar left with none.
France is set to play Greece in the next qualifying game.
