“No matter how ready I feel to sit down and write this, I struggle to find the words to cap off an incredible 16-year career with Team Canada and 32 years playing the sport. This chapter of my life has been nothing short of a dream come true, filled with unforgettable moments, hard-fought victories, and valuable lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today.”

“Winning 3 Olympic and 8 World Championship medals with Team Canada has been the ultimate honor, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve had to represent our amazing country on the international stage. It is a privilege I will cherish forever.”

She went on to thank her family and teammates for their “endless support” and the “honor of taking the ice” with them. She also thanked all her coaches who “pushed her to be the best.”

She added, “To Hockey Canada, for the opportunity to wear the Maple Leaf and for the incredible support through multiple comebacks and injuries, thank you. It has been the honor of my life to represent my country.”

Mikkelson will be spending more time with family and honing her skills as a broadcaster, most of all, she will “continue growing the game of hockey.”
