The ban was lifted following discussion between Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, and his Emirati counterpart, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This was revealed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday in Abu Dhabi, have finished a historic agreement, which has resulted in the immediate cessation of the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers”, read the statement.
“Furthermore, by this historic agreement, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines are to immediately resume flight schedules into and out of Nigeria, without any further delay.”
Flights between both countries were stopped last year after Dubai’s Emirates airlines suspended its operations in Nigeria citing trapped revenues.
President Tinubu also added on his official Instagram page, that the UAE government is investing in the Nigerian economy. He wrote, “An agreed framework for new investments worth billions of U.S dollars into the Nigerian economy by the UAE government, covering multiple sectors including defense and agriculture.”
