Pope Francis Hospitalized for Respiratory Infection

Pope Francis is hospitalized in Rome’s Gemelli hospital. According to the Italian media, ANSA, quoting sources from the hospital, nurses were optimistic he would be out of hospital in time for Palm Sunday this weekend.

The 86-year-old was admitted on Wednesday. The Vatican said Pope Francis had a respiratory infection and is expected to spend a few days in the hospital for treatment.

Reports says the Pope has canceled his entire schedule for Thursday and Friday. The Italian outlet, Corriere Della Sera, says the Pope was quiet, but alert and calm.

The Pope’s spokesman, Matteo Bruni said yesterday that Pope Francis does not have Covid-19 but requires several days of therapy following breathing problems in recent days. “Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer”, said the statement.
