The CTrain’s Red Line between City Hall/Bow Valley College Station and Chinook station will be closed for 9 days, starting from 8pm on Friday, Nov. 24 to 4am on Monday, Dec. 4.
The purpose of the closure is to allow the city complete the Victoria Park/Stampede Station rebuilding project, which has been ongoing since last October. The rebuilding allows a switch from the temporary track and platform to the new permanent track and platform.
According to Calgary Transit, the Victoria Park/Stampede, Erlton/Stampede and 39 Avenue Stations will be closed. “The southbound Red Line will terminate at City Hall/Bow Valley College Station and northbound Red Line will terminate at Chinook Station, with no CTrain service in between”, Calgary Transit said in a news release.
Calgary Transit said there will also be various lanes closures on northbound Macleod Trail throughout the nine-days. The statement said “from Monday, November 27 to Thursday, November 30, during the morning rush (6am to 9am), all three lanes will be open, with various lane closures throughout the rest of the day.”
“Overnight, northbound Macleod Trail will be down to one lane open.” Commuters will experience significant delays during closure and a result, Calgary Transit will be adjusting the timing of traffic lights along Macleod Trail to help keep traffic flowing.
Calgary Transit says it will have tow trucks on standby at key locations in case there are issues/accidents, to help traffic recover more quickly. “There will be no turning onto Macleod Trail northbound at 13, 14, 15, or 17 Avenues to reduce congestion and keep northbound traffic flowing.”
Also, Calgary Transit will have an “enhanced snow and ice control response at shuttle bus stops and on shuttle routes throughout the closure.”
Lastly, as a thank you for customer patience, Calgary Transit says it will offer a 25% discount on all monthly passes.
