The United States Men’s Basketball team continued its Olympic reign of dominance, defeating France 98-87 in the final on Saturday. The USA team beat France 98-87 to win its fifth gold medal at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Steph Curry and LeBron James led the team to victory over the host nation. Curry scored 24 points and James scored 14. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker finished with 15 points each.
Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama, in his first Olympic final, scored 26 points for France, and Guerschon Yabusele scored 20.
“I was just trying to settle us down”, said Curry afterwards. “All we wanted to do was get a good shot. It had been a while since we had good possession. Finally, the momentum was on our side. At that point, your mind goes blank. You don’t really care about the setting or the scenario or anything. It’s just a shot.”
With the recent victory, Durant became the first-ever men’s basketball player to win four Olympic titles. On the other hand, James now has three medals and Curry claimed his first gold medal.
“I think we might be the only team in the world whose fans are ashamed of them if they get a silver medal,” said USA head coach Steve Kerr after the game. “That’s the pressure that we face.”
“But our players, and you saw Steph, they love the pressure. They appreciate this atmosphere and they were fantastic.”
