Nissan is recalling over 236,000 Sentra Sedans due to the car’s suspension tie rods which may reportedly bend and break, causing loss of steering control.

The recall covers Sentra Compact cars from the 2020-2022 model years. The company said in a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that “the tie rods of the models may be insufficient under certain operating conditions.”

“If the rod experiences a high input force (such as a curb impact), it may deform”, says Nissan.

Nissan says the total number of vehicles potentially involved is approximately 236, 238 Nissaan Sentras. The company says a bent tie rod may impair the driver’s ability to steer the vehicle and the steering wheel may be off-center or experience vibration.

According to Nissan, if the tie rod breaks, it can lead to a partial loss of steering control which may lead to a crash. Reports from the NHTSA says the tie rods of the Nissan Sentra do not affect any other Nissan vehicles.

Nissan will send notification letters to owners from 0ctober 5, 2023. Owners who experience vibrations or an off-center steering wheel will be instructed to contact dealers for diagnosis and transport instructions.

Dealers will reportedly replace affected parts with a new design “at no cost to the owner.” Nissan expects to have additional remedy parts beginning in winter 2023-24, which is when owners will receive invitation to bring in their vehicles to a dealer for remedy.
