The Lethbridge police have issued a public warning about a high risk offender recently released on a “peace bond after sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl”. The police says the warning is issued in “the interest of public safety.”
Cory Raymond Cook, 23, “has history of sexually offending against children and served a federal sentence for a serious conviction involving an extremely vulnerable child victim”, the police said in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to the police, Cook is “bound by conditions prohibiting him from having any contact with children known to be under the age of 16 and must advise his probation officer of any relationships with people who have parental responsibilities with children under 16.”
In the statement, the police says they believe Cook “poses a significant risks of harm to children in the community.” They added that he “engages in behavior that is impulsive and opportunistic and information in his file indicates he may attempt to seek out relationships with females who have children.”
Police says Cook has been assessed as an “above average risk to re-offend and is being monitored by the LPS High Risk Offenders Unit”. The police have released a photo of Cook and describes him as a Caucasian male, approximately 5’9” tall, 180 lbs., with dirty blond/brown hair and brown eyes.
However, the police warns that Cook is known to alter his appearance by adding facial hair and/or altering his hair color/style.
This public warning by the police is not to engage in “any form of vigilante action”, but to “enable the members of the public take suitable precautionary measure”, says the police.
