British Monarch, King Charles III, 75, has been diagnosed with cancer and has been advised to step back from public duties by his doctors.

Buckingham palace announced on its website that “during the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified tests have identified a form of cancer.”

The statement did not provide any specifics regarding the type and stage of the cancer. The palace added that the King has shared his diagnosis with the public with hope that it “may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”

Last week, both King Charles and Katherine were discharged from a private London clinic after medical procedures. The King underwent a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate, while Kate, 42, had unstipulated abdominal surgery on Jan. 17.
