Although, turtles are not cuddly pets like cats or dogs, they make very good pets to care for. They only need the right housing, nutrition and hygiene.

Provide Proper Housing: You need to house your turtle in a largest glass aquarium you can find. Before you purchase, ask the pet store manager how big the turtle can get or find information online. Ensure the aquarium is enclosed to prevent your turtle from escaping and cover the bottom with peat moss. Make a well-lit basking area for your turtle and fill the tank with water.

Feeding: You may choose to feed your turtle in a separate tank or feed them in the same tank, either way, you would need to change water often. Some species of turtle are omnivores while others are carnivores, hence they should be fed accordingly. Chop food into bite sizes so they can easily digest and prevent choking. Supplement diet with vegetables regularly, and feed adults 3 to 4 times per week and hatchlings daily. They do not need water as they already live in water and can absorb through their bodies.

Hygiene/Health: Ensure your aquarium has a filter installed into it to allow easy cleaning. Also, you can use a net to remove drops of food that wasn’t eaten. Wash your hands before picking up your pet, change water regularly and clean tank at least every 3 weeks. If you do not have a filter, clean out aquarium daily.
