Hollywood Actress Raquel Welch Dead at 82

Raquel Welch, the actress who was seen as a sex symbol of the 1960s and 1970s has died at the age of 82. The actress reportedly died, early Wednesday after a brief illness, said her agent Stephen LaManna.

The management said the star “passed away peacefully early this morning after a brief illness.” “Her career spanned over 50 years, starring in over 30 films and 50 television series and appearances. The Golden Globe winner, in more recent years, was involved in a very successful line of wigs.

“Raquel leaves behind her two children, son Damon Welch and her daughter, Tahnee Welch”, said the Management company, Media Four.

Welch came to limelight for her role in the 1966 prehistoric One Million Years BC. Although she had a few lines of dialogue, she was clad in a brown doeskin bikini which made her a bestselling global sex symbol.

Speaking to the Associated Press in 1981, she said “I just thought it was a goofy dinosaur epic we’d be able to sweep under the carpet one day. Wrong, it turned out that I was the BO Derek of the season, the lady in the lion cloth about whom everyone said, ‘My God, what a bod’ and they expected to disappear overnight.”Raquel was crowned “most desired woman” by playboy in the 1970s.

Tributes have poured in for the late icon as Reese Witherspoon tweeted “So sad to hear about Raquel Welch’s passing. I loved working with her on Legally Blonde. She was elegant, professional and glamorous beyond belief. Simply stunning. May all her angels carry her home. Sending love to her family and her many fans.”

The actress’ fans have placed flowers at her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in tribute.
