Oppenheimer and Succession have been capped the big winners of this year’s Golden Globe Awards, including the top prize.

Oppenheimer won five gongs, including best dramatic film. Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. won in the best actor category, while Christopher Nolan won the best director.  The critically acclaimed Succession scored the most wins in the TV categories.

Meanwhile, Barbie won the first box office achievement awards, after grossing over $1.4bn worldwide. Babbie star and producer, Margot Robbie, dedicated the gong to “every single person on the planet who dressed up and went to the greatest place on earth – the movie theatres.”

Oppenheimer’s Robert Downey Jr. who was named best supporting actor, described the film as “a God damn masterpiece”. Also, the film won the prize for the best original score.

In his acceptance speech, Oppenheimer star, Cillian paid tribute to Nolan’s “rigour, focus and dedication”, in making the film. He said “I knew the first time I walked on Christopher Nolan’s set that it was different.”

“I could tell by the level of rigour, focus and dedication, and the complete lack of seating options for actors that I was in the hands of a visionary director”, he joked. “To all my fellow nominees, whether you’re Irish or not, you’re all legends, I salute you”, he added.
