Ex-Renault Formula 1 boss and previous co-owner of Queens Park Rangers, Flavio Briatore @briatoreflavio, has undergone heart surgery to extract a benign tumor.

The 73-year-old Italian announced on Instagram that he has been released from the hospital in Milan after undergoing the procedure. He wrote “Medical prevention is key! Following a routine checkup, I had heart surgery as I had a benign mass that was removed by a miniinvasive surgery using an endoscopic technique.”

“The operation was perfectly successful, and I warmly thank the Prof. Francesco Maisano, the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Team and the fantastic 1st Q department of San Raffaele (Hospital).”

Briatore was managing director of Benetton when Michael Schumacher won the F1 drivers’ championship in 1994 and 1995. He also oversaw Renault’s operations when Fernando Alonso secured consecutive titles in 2005 and 2006, but left due to the “Crashgate Scandal.”
