Elton John has revealed that he can not watch his own musical due to vision loss.
The 77-year-old told the audience at the gala night for The Devil Wears Prada Musical at the Dominion Theatre in London. “I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it”, he said.
“I’ve lost my eyesight and cannot see the stage. As some of you may know I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed it.”
He continued, “To my husband who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews… It’s hard for me to see it but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight OK. Thank you for coming!”
The West End show hosted a charity gala for the Elton John AIDS Foundation on Sunday evening.
Earlier this year, John revealed he has been struggling with his eyesight since getting an infection.
In an interview with ABC News’ Good Morning America, he revealed that he was okay to do interviews, but was unable to read or watch anything.
Sunday’s gala attracted a host of famous faces, including Anna Wintour, Lily Collins and Donatella Versace.
