Canadian Musician and Former April Wine Singer Myles Goodwyn Dead at 75

Canadian singer, singer, guitarist, writer, producer and leader of the multi-platinum selling rock band, April Wine, is dead aged 75. He reportedly died on Sunday, says his publicist, Eric Alper.

No further details on the cause of death, location, or funeral details will be disclosed, according to a spokesman.

Born in June 1948, in Woodstock, Nova Scotia, he found solace in music after his mother’s death. He described music as his “salvation”, in his popular 2016 memoir, Just Between You and Me.

In 1969, he formed April Wine, alongside his long-time friend, Jim Henman and Henman’s Cousins David and Ritchie Henman. He was the lead vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter of the band.

He led the group from inception and performed on every of the band’s release. He led the group for more than five decades, with his last show with the band on March 2, in Nova Scotia. April Wine has sold more than 10 million recordings worldwide.

In 2002, he received the National Achievement Award at the annual SOCAN Awards held in Toronto. Goodwyn and the April Wine were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2010. Prior to that, he received an ECMA Lifetime Achievement Award for his impact on the music industry of Atlantic Canada in 2003.

In 2016, he released his memoir, Just Between You and Me. He published his second book. Elvis and Tiger, a fiction novel in 2018.

He announced his retirement from touring with April Wine due to diabetes and poor health on December 20, 2022.
