The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society says it is facing financial crisis and is in need of help.

Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society is a non-for profit agency caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. The Agency operates a fully functional veterinary hospital, with professional veterinary staff. It is the only wildlife hospital located with Calgary.

The agency says “escalating costs associated with wildlife care, coupled with increased regulatory pressures have led to a 30% increase in expenses.”

Despite the rising costs, the society has experienced a significant drop in donations for the first quarter of the year. The Executive Director for the society, Beki Hunt, says the “combination of increased expenses, regulatory pressures and the reduction in donations has left us with no choice but to take immediate action to mitigate our financial challenges.”

To cope with the financial crisis, Calgary Wildlife is implementing measures to reduce cost, including reducing the number of animals it can take in for the year and reducing its operating hours.

“Now more than ever, we need the generosity of individuals and organizations to rally behind us and help us continue our crucial work of rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife and releasing them back into their wild”, said Calgary Wildlife.

The agency is suggesting that a $25 monthly contribution with500 individuals committing to it, would make a significant difference for wildlife that make their home in and around Calgary.
