Calgary Public Locations To Reopen With Modified Services Following Cybersecurity Breach
All Calgary Public Library Locations will reopen on Wednesday, with modified services after a cybersecurity breach compromised some of its systems.
The Calgary Public Library (CPL) had shut down all of its physical locations on Friday, at 5pm as part of its measures to lessen the impact of the breach. “Calgary Public Library is experiencing a significant service disruption due to a recent cybersecurity breach”, CPL wrote on its website. “Our teams are working to contain this issue and complete a thorough investigation.”
“All Calgary Public Library locations will open for regular hours with modified service on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Patrons will have access to Library spaces and services that do not require technology.”
Part of the available services include: collection browsing (limited access); Limited materials check-out (10 items per card) and holds pick-up; Study areas and drop-in meeting room access (limited availability); Programs and events that do not require technology, such as Family Storytime, Baby Rhyme Time, and Reading Buddies. Meanwhile, CPL says book returns are not available as all due dates for borrowed materials will be extended until further notice.
Additionally, technology and digital services, including printing, Chromebooks, computer access, internet, and Wi-Fi are not available. Other unavailable services includes: Digital Library and eResources, with the exception of Libby and Kanopy; Programs and events that do not require technology, including all virtual programming; and online room booking and program registration.
CPL says it hopes to restore all services as soon as it is safe to do so.
