The Calgary Police Service (CPS) are currently investigating a fatal collision that occurred over the weekend.
According to a news release by the police, at approximately 6:45pm pm Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, a collision took place at the intersection of 24 Street S.W. and 162 Avenue S.W. “At the time, a 48-year-old woman was walking southbound from the northeast corner to the southeast corner of the intersection and is believed to have been within, or close to, the marked pedestrian crosswalk”, said the statement.
“At the same time, a maroon 2009 Honda Pilot driven by a 49-year-old woman, was travelling south on 24 Street S.W., and made a turn onto eastbound 162 Avenue S.W. The Honda struck the pedestrian as it entered the eastbound lanes and collided with a bus shelter, before crossing both eastbound travel lanes and coming to rest on the median, facing north.”
Police said the pedestrian was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition but was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the Honda did not sustain any injuries. Police believe impairment and speed were not factors in the collision.
