The state of Saopaulo, Brazil has signed a bill to approve the celebration of Yoruba Say in the state. The Bill was passed by the Saopaulo Legislative council on April 13, 2023

“Yoruba day is now official in the State of Saopaulo”, says Chief Rafael, the Atatyese Oodua in the report by The Ancestral News.  The report says the President of the umbrella body of the Yorubas in Brazil “Egbe Omo Oodua”, Pastor Kayode Aderemi asserts that “there has been a growing recognition and celebration of cultural diversity in Brazil.”

“The most recent example is the approval of Yoruba Day in Saopaulo”, said Pastor Aderemi.

According to the Ancestral News, the approval of the Yoruba Day is a result of years of effort by several Yoruba groups including the Egbe Omo Oodua in Saopaulo, Brazil.

Last Month, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, officially presented a certificate of Yoruba Territory to Quilombola territory in Brazil, making it the first city outside of Africa to receive the title.

The King @ooniadimulaife said this move would preserve the history and enable cultural preservation, while at the same time giving Brazilians a sense of belonging. Those efforts will help nurture improvement in strengthening the heritage of Yoruba globally.
