Arsenal sprung back from their Champions League defeat to secure a vital victory against Wolves at Molineux, regaining the top spot in the Premier League.
Following a missed opportunity to win Aston Villa and Bayerna Munich in the past week, and suffering elimination from the Champions League, it was a big victory for the Gunners. Leandro Trossard’s goal in the final minute of the first half came at an impeccable moment.
“I really liked the performance, the result, the clean sheet”, said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. “But especially the way the team has individually shown that they still have another step forward to make and resilience that is needed in these moments to step in and say ‘I’m here, I’m gonna make myself count and impact the team.”
“It was a game that we totally deserved to win. We showed the desire to stand firm and make ourselves big. Now is the time to prove who we are as a team. We have to live these weeks and deal with the outcome. If you want to live at the top the only way is down so I’m really pleased with how the players responded today”, said Arteta.
The results mean Arsenal are now a point clear of City, with a better goal difference but having played a game more.
Meanwhile, the Wolves’ winless streak now extends to six games across all competitions, their longest since the conclusion of the 2021-2022 season.
