Amazon has announced it is doubling its investment in Anthropic to $8 billion, further deepening their collaboration on artificial intelligence.
Amazon will maintain its position as a minority investor in Anthropic, having pumped an initial $4 billion into the artificial intelligence developer late last year and becoming its primary cloud computing provider.
“The response from AWS customers who are developing generative AI application powered by Anthropic in Amazon Bedrock has been remarkable”, said Matt Garman, AWS CEO on Amazon website.
“By continuing to deploy Anthropic models in Amazon Bedrock and collaborating with Anthropic on the development of our custom Trainium chips, we’ll keep pushing the boundaries of what customers can achieve with generative AI technologies.
In September, Britain’s competition regulator, had said that Amazon’s partnership with Anthropic will not be referred for a deeper inquiry as it did not fall under its jurisdiction. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) concluded that the tech giant had not gained “material influence” over Anthropic as a result of the deal, which reportedly cost $2 billion.
Co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei said, “This has been a year of breakout growth for Claude, and our collaboration with Amazon has been instrumental in bringing Claude’s capabilities to millions of end users across tens of thousands of customers on Amazon Bedrock.”
