A school bus carrying 12 people rolled off the road Monday morning, on Highway 2A just north of Didsbury, Alta.
The bus was carrying nine students and two teachers from George McDougall High School in Airdie on a field trip when the accident happened. Alberta Health Services (AHS) said six patients – five children and one adult, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to AHS, there were no fatalities.
In a news release, RCMP said they responded to the crash shortly before 10:30am. The police said there were two teachers, nine students, and a driver on the bus at the time of the crash.
The release says one youth with non-life threatening injuries was taken to the Foothills Medical Centre. Another youth with non-life threatening injuries was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Three youth with non-life threatening injuries were taken to the Disbury Health Centre and another adult with non-life threatening injuries was taken to the Peter Lougheed Centre. The police said they were on their way to Olds, Alta., for a field trip.
Parts of Highway 2A was closed for several hours on Monday for investigation and was reopened around 3:30pm.
Alberta Premier, Danielle Smith, reacted to the news of the accident on the X platform. She said “My thoughts are with those who were injured in today’s bus accident and I extend my wishes for their quick recovery.”
