The Calgary Police Service (CPS) have charged a teenager with multiple offences, and continue to search for another suspect in relation to the suspicious fires that occurred in Riverbend in late August.
On August 22, at around 12:40am, police received reports of a fire at a residence in the 100 block of tRiverglen Crescent S.E. Officers arrived to see a garage had been destroyed and two residences damaged.
“Investigators believe there were two additional nuisance fires set to recycling bins in the back alley of the 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E. and the 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E”, said Calgary Police.
“One of the fires was believed to have been set around 11:30pm on Wednesday, Aug 21, 2024 and the other is believed to have been set around the same time as the residential fire.”
Following investigations, a 16-year-old male has been charged with disregard to human life, causing fire to a dwelling or house and mischief. The teen cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He will next appear in court on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024.
The second suspect is described as around 16 years old and was last seen wearing a grey and white camouflage patterned hooded sweater, black shorts, an army-green satchel and light-brown or green Croc shoes.
Police believes the suspect may have been traveling on foot with other individuals in the areas of: the 100 block of Riverglen Crscent S.E.; The 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E. and The 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E.
CPS is now asking anyone with information and CCTV or dashcam footage from the Riverbend area or who believes they saw something suspicious around the time of the incidents, to call 403-266-1234.
