Belgium has issued an apology after a video was posted on social media featuring Amadou Onana @its_onana suggesting he would target France captain Kylian Mbappe @k.mbappe when both teams face off in the last 16 of the European Championship.

The two countries are set to play on Monday in Dusseldorf (kick off at 17:00 BST).

In the video, comedian Pablo Andres was featured singing “Who will kick Mbappe’s shin?”. Everton midfielder Onana, 22, then responds ‘Amadou Onana.’

Following backlash, the Royal Belgian Football Association has since removed the video from all platform and issued an apology.

Before the start of the team’s daily news conference, Belgium’s press officer, Stefan Van Loock said “It was not the intention to attack anyone. We have been working with comedian Pablo Andres for a long time, this video also had to be funny.”

“But we misjudged that and also took the video offline. We would like to apologize to anyone we may have offended with this. For us, this is the end of the matter.”
