Victim of Southeast Calgary Fatal Shooting Identified, Police Seek Suspect’s Car

The victim of the fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast Calgary on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, has been identified.

The police believed the shooting was a targeted incident and the suspect and deceased were known to each other. The Calgary Police Service said they were called to the 1800 block of 35 street S.E., for reports of a shooting, around 10pm on the Dec 18.

Police arrived the scene to find one man dead and another woman injured. The injured woman was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition, but the man was declared dead on the scene.

After an autopsy, which was completed on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, the deceased man has now been identified as Donald Lyons, 43, of Calgary. Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a dark-grey or black, 2016 to 2018 Toyota RAV4 that was seen near the 1800 block of 35 Street S.E. at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, between 9pm and 10pm, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers.

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit continues to investigate the incident.
