The Wilder Insititute/Calgary Zoo says two new polar bears have arrived from Winnipeg. The male polar bears – six-year-old Baffin and Seven-year-old Siku – flew to Calgary from Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg on WestJet Cargo.
In a social media post, the Calgary Zoo said the “newest residents touched down safe and sound at the zoo”. “Polar bears, Baffin and Siku, journeyed from their prior home at Assiniboine Park Zoon (APZ) to their new home here at the zoo, along with an Animal Care, Health & Welfare team member from both the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoon and APZ”, said the post.
“The two bears are settling in well and are spending time exploring their new home – the Taylor Family Foundation Polar Bear Sanctuary”, reads the post. “Over the next several weeks, they will continue to spend time in the courtyard and main habitat as they continue to familiarize themselves with the space and begin to build trust with their dedicated care team.”
The polar bear enclosure will be part of the Wild Canada, which will open to the public on Dec. 1
