A Calgary pastor has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for his involvement in the Coutts bordr blockade in early 2022.

Artur Pawlowski was found guilty of one count each of mischief and breaching a release order for his role in protests against COVID-19 public health measures that blocked Alberta’s main Canada-US border crossing for over two weeks.

Pawlowski was sentenced in a Lethbridge, Alta. courtroom on Monday to 60 days, but the judge gave him 6o days credit for time already served. This means he no longer has time left to serve.

According to CBC, Justice Gordon Krinke said Pawlowski was not involved in the planning of the so-called “Freedom Convoy” and didn’t play a major role with his appearance at the border blockade.

During the trial, Crown prosecutors said Pawlowski’s impassioned speech to truckers during the protest fanned the flames of unrest and convinced them to stay at the border crossing for two weeks, reports CBC.

Report says the prosecutors pursued a sentence of eight to ten month, but the defense lawyers were asking for term served. The defense said Pawlowski had accepted full responsibility for his actions at the blockade.

Supporters of the pastor were present during the trial, chanting “Hold the Line”, in front of the courthouse.

Speaking on his release, Pawlowski posted on his Facebook “A free man! The fight continues! Praise Jesus!” Ending it with a bible verse.
