Asisat Lamina Oshoala (M.O.N), @asisat_oshoala born on October 9, 1994, is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Spanish Liga F club FC Barcelona and the Nigeria women’s national team. She primarily plays as a forward and is known for her speed and goal-scoring ability. Oshoala has achieved significant success in both club and international football.
At the club level, Oshoala began her career with Rivers Angels in Nigeria’s Women’s Premier League before moving to Europe to play for Liverpool Ladies in 2015. She had a successful period with Liverpool, winning the FA Women’s Super League and the FA Women’s Cup in her first season.
In 2016, Oshoala joined Arsenal Women and continued her impressive performances. She was the top scorer in the FA Women’s Cup in the 2015-2016 season and helped Arsenal win the competition. She also won the Women’s Super League with Arsenal in the 2018-2019 season.
After her time with Arsenal, Oshoala moved to China to play for Dalian Quanjian (now known as Dalian Professional) in the Chinese Women’s Super League. She had a prolific scoring record in China and won the league title in 2017.
In January 2019, Oshoala made a move to Spain to play for Barcelona Femení. She quickly established herself as a key player for the team and helped Barcelona win several domestic and international titles. In the 2020-2021 season, Oshoala played a crucial role in Barcelona’s historic treble, winning the Primera División Femenina, the Copa de la Reina, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
She became the first African woman to win the UEFA Champions League and in the following season she became the first African woman to win the Primera Division’s Pichichi Trophy. In August 2022, she became the first African woman nominated to the Ballon d’Or.
On the international stage, Oshoala has represented Nigeria at various youth levels and the senior national team. She has been an integral part of the Nigerian women’s national team, known as the Super Falcons, and has participated in several editions of the Africa Women Cup of Nations and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Oshoala has won the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award multiple times, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most talented female footballers.
