The Calgary Police Service (CPS) are seeking the public’s help in the search for a man believed to be responsible for a sexual assault that occurred at a bus stop in the city’s southwest.

According to a News release by CPS, “at approximately 1:15 am on Sunday, March 10, 2024, a woman was waiting at a bus stop located on 37 Street S.W., between 26 Avenue and 28 Avenue S.W., when she was approached by an unknown man.”

Police says the man was armed with a crowbar, and he demanded the woman follow him behind a nearby business, where he proceeded to physically and sexually assault the woman. A person living nearby heard the victim’s cry for help and interrupted the assault, causing the suspect to flee on foot.

“The Good Samaritan then called police and the victim was transported to hospital”, said the news release. Police have now identified the suspect as 47-year-old James Francis Pritchard, of Calgary, who is wanted on warrants for sexual assault with a weapon in relation to this incident.

The suspect is described as around 5’11” tall, 190 pounds, with a slim build, short grey hair, hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a light-colored jacket with dark sleeves, light-blue jeans, white shoes and was believed to be carrying a dark-colored backpack.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to call 403-266-1234 or drop anonymous tips on Crime Stoppers.
