Police Officer Shot, One Suspect Dead in Northeast Calgary

A Calgary police officer has been shot in the northeast community of Falconridge. According to the Calgary Police, police officers were executing a warrant on Wednesday at around 1p.m, in the 5700 block of Falsbridge Drive N.E.

A shootout reportedly occurred while attempting to arrest an individual, resulting in one police officer and one suspect being shot. The officer was transported to hospital in stable condition, said the CPS.

The Calgary police says one suspect was declared deceased and another suspect was taken into custody. The report says “the suspects were previously involved in other firearms-related offences, which is why our Tactical Unit was present for the arrest. There is currently no threat to the public.”

Calgary Police Service (CPS) deputy acting Chief Cliff O’Brien said the incident happened in the shopping center’s parking lot, not inside the complex itself.

Further details about the officer that was shot has not been released. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate.
