OJ Simpson Dead, Former NFL Player Dies Aged 76

Former NFL star, who transitioned to acting and was famously acquitted of murder charges, O.J. Simpson, has died aged 76.

Born in San Francisco, Orenthal Jamess Simpson rose to fame in college before playing in the NFL. In 1995, he was cleared of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown and her companion, a trial that went viral at the time.

In 2008, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison on unrelated charges of armed robbery, from which he was released in 2017. Diagnosed with prostate cancer, Simpson had been receiving chemotherapy treatment.

He died on Wednesday “surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” read a family statement. Before his legal issues, Simpson was a renowned athlete, actor and spokesperson for numerous major companies.

In 1996, he joined the Buffalo Bills, where he played until 1977. Simpson emerged as one of the greatest ball carriers in NFL history. After his retirement form professional football in 1979, Simpson built a successful career in film and television.

Since the announcement of his death, tributes have been pouring in. The Pro Football Hall of Fame honored Simpson’s NFL achievements, stating that records of his contributions would be preserved in its archive.
