It’s the year of the Rabbit and as we hop hop, hippity hop into 2023 we celebrated the Lunar Chinese New Year in Calgary at the Regency Seafood Restaurant in Calgary’s Chinatown. Looks like a few others were in the photo other than all of us seated at Table 18…..
The Chinatown Business Improvement Area celebrated the 2023 year of Rabbit Chinese New year Gala on February 1, 2023. The event which took place at the Regency Palace Restaurant saw guests enjoy a 10 course dinner in celebration of the Year of Rabbit.
Part of the activities for the night was the traditional Chinese Lion Dance, usually performed during Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditional, cultural and religious festivals. Other activities included Photo Booth, Live Music and Prize Draw.
The Chinese Zodiac gives each year an animal sign, and the 2023 New Year is the Year of the Rabbit. The 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
The date is decided by the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is based on the cycles of the Moon and Sun. it is usually 21-51 days behind the Gregorian calendar. Although the date changes every year, it falls between January 21st and February 20th.
