The Edmonton Oilers suffered their second defeat this season against the Los Angeles Kings, with 4-0 defeat on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The 30-16-1 Edmonton Oilers hit the road to take on the 23-15-10 L.A. Kings at Crypto.com Arena.
Speaking after the game, Oilers forward Zack Hyman said “I think they just played better than us, to be honest. You’ve got to make something happen out there, obviously there wasn’t a lot of space. They won the special teams battle and they won the game.”
Head Coach Kris Knoblauch said “During our winning streak, the special teams battle, we always came out on top, or at least tied. I think there was a stretch since mid-December that we went through that whole time without losing that special teams battle. And now tonight we lost it. And that just makes it harder to win games when that happens.”
After a goalless first period, the Kings took control with a 1-0 goal just 49 seconds into the second period. Peirre-Luc Dubois raced a power play shot from the right wing past Stuart Skinner. Afterwards, Quinton Byfield set up Trevor Lewis for a goal on two-on-one. Byfield extended the win to 3-0 when he cashed in a rebound with 12:54 left.
The second period, I thought we played really well and had our opportunities. Not being able to capitalize on the amount of chances that we had, and we got our out-second 2-0, I think that was hard for us”, Knoblauch said on Edmonton Oilers official website.
The Oilers will host the Detroit Red Wings back at home on Tuesday.
