The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has condemned the plot by some individuals to disturb the peace in Sierra Leone.
The Sierra Leone government had declared a 24-hours nationwide curfew in a preemptive attempt to ensure stability in the country. The curfew was declared by the President, Julius Maada Bio after unidentified gunmen attacked military barracks in the nation’s capital, Freetown.
In a statement on Sunday, ECOWAS said “The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has learnt with utter disgust a plot by certain individuals to acquire arms and disturb the peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone.”
“ECOWAS condemns this act and calls for the arrest and prosecution of all participants in this illegal act. ECOWAS reiterates its zero-tolerance for unconstitutional change of Government.”
“ECOWAS further underscored its commitment to supporting the government and people of Sierra Leone to deepen democracy and good governance, consolidate peace and security as well as foster socio-economic development.”
