Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie @chimamanda_adichie born 15 September 1977, is a Nigerian writer whose work includes novels, short stories and nonfiction.

Adichie’s thought provoking writing and powerful advocacy for gender equality have inspired many. She is well-known for her critically acclaimed novels such as “Half of a Yellow Sun”, “Purple Hibiscus” “Americanah”, and “We Shall All Be Feminists”.

With these works, she has earned several accolades and they have been translated into several languages. Amongst her many accolades is the David T. Wong International Short Story Prize 2002/2003. In 2008, she was awarded a MacArthur Genius Grant.

In 2018, she received the PEN Pinter Prize. Most recently, she won the Indie Books Awards’ Non-Fiction Award for her memoir Notes on Grief.

Adichie’s impact on literature and advocacy has led to her receiving honorary degrees from universities around the world. She holds 16 honorary doctorate degrees from universities including John Hopkins University, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Catholic University of Louvain.

Adichie’s works have contributed greatly to shaping discussions about colonialism, identity, and feminism in modern literature and society. On December 2022, she was made the odeluwa of Abba, a Nigerian Chief, by the Kingdom of Abba, making the first woman to receive such honor from the kingdom.
