Either as an athlete, or a random person, dealing with knee pain can impede on your daily activities. Strengthening the muscles around your knees can help improve stability, reduce pain, and prevent injuries. However, it is essential to note that it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before starting a new exercise program.

Here some exercises you can adopt to help strengthen your knee.

Straight Leg Raises: Sit on a chair with your back straight and legs extended, lift one leg off the ground, keeping it straight.  Hold for a few seconds, then slowly lower the leg back down. Repeat 10-15 times on each leg.

Quad Sets: To do this, sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Tighten the muscles on the front of your thigh (quadriceps) and press the back of your knee into the floor. Hold for 5-10 seconds, then relax. Repeat 10-15 times.

Hamstring Curls: Stand behind a chair or use a wall for support. Bend one knee, bringing your foot toward your buttocks. Hold for a few seconds, then lower your foot back down. Repeat 10-15 times on each leg.

Step-Ups: Find a step or platform that is about knee height. Step up onto the platform with one foot, pushing through your heel. Bring your other foot up onto the platform. Step back down with the same foot, then the other foot. Repeat 10-15 times, alternating lead legs.
