Super Eagles Midfielder Alex Iwobi was named Man of the Match following Fulham’s pre-season friendly 1-0 win over Benfica at the Estadio Algarve on Friday night.

The 27-year-old scored the winning goal in the 21st minute, capitalizing on an assist from Antonee Robinson by slipping the ball home from inside the box.

In the early stages of the match, Benfica dominated the game testing Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno with a series of attempts, but the Cottagers soaked up the pressure and grew into the game.  Fulham’s breakthrough came after a failed Benfica attack led to a quick counter, initiated by the industrious Adama Traore and finished colly by Iwobi.

The versatile midfielder was replaced by Martial Godo in the 79th minute. Calvin Bassey also delivered a strong defensive performance, playing the full 90 minutes for the Premier League side.

Fulham will be facing Sevilla at the same venue on Monday night, a game that will possibly feature four Nigerian players, Iwobi and Bassey for Fulham and Chidera Ejuke, alongside Kelechi Iheanacho for the La Liga side.
