Two teens, aged 13 and 16, have been arrested in connection with a major scrapyard fire in Quebec City that burned around 500 vehicles.

The fire took place at auto parts scrapyard Pieces d’Autos Goulet St-Emile. The flames reportedly broke out around 4pm on Sunday and they could be seen from kilometers away. About 35 local firefighters were called to the scene and they worked until late in the evening to put the fire out. No one was injured.

Police believe that the fire was deliberately started. The investigation led to the arrest of the teen boys. The 16-year-old was arrested and questioned on Sunday evening.

The 13-year-old was arrested on Monday morning and was scheduled to appear in youth court on Monday afternoon.

The cars in the scrapyard had no batteries, tires or gasoline, thereby reducing any environmental risks.
