Stage 4 outdoor water restriction has taken effect in Calgary starting August 26 at 12:01am. Also, a need for reduction in indoor water use takes effect at the same time.
The city says the repairs of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main would begin today, August 26 until the end of September. “This impacts water availability throughout the city and we are asking Calgarians to continue their water conservation efforts.”
Under the Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions, businesses and residents as well as City of Calgary operations are to reduce indoor water use by 25%. The violations may lead to fines starting at $3,000 according to the City of Calgary website.
During the Stage 4 restrictions, residents and businesses are not allowed to water lawns, gardens, flowers, trees and shrubs with City water; use outdoor automatic sprinkler systems; wash outdoor surfaces, that includes windows, exterior building surfaces and sidewalks, driveways or walkways.
Filling fountains or decorative water features are not allowed. Calgarians are not allowed to use water for construction purposes such as grading, compaction or dust control.
However, the restrictions allow residents to “capture rainwater and greywater inside homes to water plants and gardens; visit a pick up station to collect non-potable river water for landscape and garden use.”
Meanwhile, the City of Airdie, the City of Chestermere, Tsuut’ina Nation and the Town of Strathmore also have water restrictions in place.
